Awesome plugin to create a iphone compatible wordpress layout …. now my site can be viewed on an iphone without ay layout issues
from the plugin creators :-
“Feature List
- Formats your blog content for optimized viewing on the iPhone.
- Automatically detects the iPhone’s Safari browser and only displays the custom theme to iPhone visitors, other visitors get your standard theme.
- Simple iPhone-like theme with common interface elements that compliments the iPhone’s internal applications.
- Images larger then 300 pixels wide are automatically scaled down to fit the iPhone optimized width.”
This is what I call as stupidity. if your wordpress theme is xhtml valid ( which it is, in a normal situation) why the hell do you need to optimize if any further. When a format has been decided as standard, why the hell these people ( like iphone) make their product incompatible with xhtml.
Actually , you should realize that standards that work for desktops may not necessarily be user friendly in small devices … “vertical + horizontal” scrolling on a single page is not great usability
ya i do agree custom tags should be banned
… but standards are decided by popular choice … not necessarily an intelligent one …
no dear. XHTML was made just to ensure that every browser in this world, including even links, could display them properly. I agree length and width problems are there, but the point is that XHTML is giving you unambiguous language, and if you still can not interprete it and display it, you are a looser.
True , XHTML was for that purpose …. but you have to understand that usability doesnt really care abt the underlying standards … for the user it just has to look good … standards are for the “developers” arnt they
well, yes the standards are for developers so that they could give what is best for users. And then the point is that you can arrange different components of the xhtml code in the way you want. And since the language is unambiguous, you will not have problem in doing so. So, if you want to give good presentation to users, instead of being pain in developers ass, try to make mechanism to rearrange things and make it better. And by the way, if we will try to optimize your code for every borwser, you will have hell of a problem. So better is that we all follow same standards. standards are made for this purpose. right? xhtml is something which can be used for any type of browser, the problem is that these big guys want to control people, they want things in their way so that they would satisfy their ego.
